Fire Resistant & Flame Retardant Cable Test

There is common cable specification in oil and gas industry. The cable specification describes about Fire Resistant and Flame Retardant Cable.

Fire Resistant Cable

Fire Resistant Cable is made to comply with IEC 60331.
Testing this cable type shall comply to the condition below:

  • Temperature: 750°C
  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • Cable under nominal voltage

Results:

  • no fuse should melt (no short-circuit)
  • no light off (0.25mA) (continuity checking)

Flame Retardant Cable

Flame Retardant Cable is made to comply with IEC 60332-3.
Testing this cable type shall comply to the condition below:

  • Temperature: 800°C
  • Cat A: 7 l/m of burning material
  • Cat B: 3.5 l/m of burning material
  • Cat C: 1.5 l/m of burning material

The Test duration will be for Cat A: 40 minutes, Cat B: 40 minutes and Cat C: 20 minutes
Results: It shall be no burning over 2.5 m height from the burner

Low smoke emission

This is also common that client ask for Low smoke emission cable. The design of such cable is meet to IEC 61034 standard. The test will be measured for Smoke opacity measurement in a 27 m3 room, during the burning of a cable sample (25mn), and 40mn after burning is completed.
